WORKSHOP ITINERARY

Day 1

Clients will be met in the evening at Lima airport, from where we will transfer to our hotel, approximately 20 minutes from the airport.

Day 2

After breakfast at the hotel, we shall transfer to Pucusana in south Lima, about a 2-hour drive from the hotel. This is an excellent location to photograph Inca tern, a prominent bird species in this area. Additionally, during a boat trip around the island, we will have the opportunity to capture images of various seabirds, including Humbolt Penguin. After lunch following the boat tour, we will continue our journey to Pantanos de Villa. Here, we can capture photos of various waterfowl, such as Ducks, Black Skimmer, and various Gull species. After spending some time birding in this area, we will proceed to the airport for a 1-hour flight to Tarapoto, where we will spend the night.

Day 3

We will visit and spend the entire morning at hummingbird feeders in Aconabikh private reserve, a 40-minute drive from the hotel. Here, we will seek out bird species like Kopecke's Hermit, Gould's Jewelfront, Black-throated Mango, White-necked Jacobin, and many more hummingbirds. We may also explore a trail for the Golden-headed Manakin in a lek territory. After finishing here, we will return to Tarapoto and continue our journey for approximately 2 hours to Moyobamba.

Day 4

Full-day visit to Wakanqi reserve. In the morning, we will focus on observing hummingbirds at the feeders, with the Rufous-crested Coquette being a highlight. We can also expect to spot White-chinned Sapphire, Great-billed Hermit, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, among others. In the afternoon, we can explore the gardens surrounding the lodge, where we may encounter birds like Orange-backed Troupial, Black-bellied Tanager, Red-capped Cardinals, and more.

Day 5

After breakfast, we will drive to Arena Blanca reserve. Here, we will have the opportunity to photograph a variety of hummingbirds, including Wire-crested Thorntail, Blue-Fronted Lancebill, and Many-spotted Hummingbird. Additionally, we can capture images of other birds at the feeding station, such as Black-bellied Tanager, Orange-bellied Euphonia, Yellow-tufted Woodpecker, Magpie Tanager, and more. After birding in this area, we will drive another 50 minutes to our lodge for the night.

Day 6

In the morning, we will spend time observing hummingbirds at the feeders and around the lodge. Bird activity is expected to be robust, and we might spot Lulu’s Tody-Tyrant, Yellow-scarfed Tanager, Grass-green Tanager, and Blue-Capped Tanager. After lunch, we will move to Fundo Alto Nieva, another fascinating location for observing hummingbirds, where we commonly see Peruvian Botted Raquet-tail, Greenish Puffleg, Long-tailed Sylph, and many other hummingbirds.

Day 7

We will have another full morning around our lodge, with ample opportunities to photograph hummingbirds at the feeders. We will also have a chance to capture images of Chestnut & Undulated Antpittas. After lunch, we will proceed to Pomacochas, where we will spend the night.

Day 8

We will dedicate a full day to Huembo Reserve, where hummingbird feeders provide the opportunity to photograph the Marvelous Spatuletail, often considered the most beautiful hummingbird in the world. We can also spot other hummingbirds like the White-bellied Hummingbird, Andean Emerald, Purple-throated Sunangel, and more.

Our photo tour pages have detailed itineraries, costs, species lists, policies, terms & conditions. You should read them carefully, and then contact us via our Contact form or email us at info@tropicalphototours.com

What are the payment and cancelation terms?
A ‘non-refundable’ deposit of USD 1000 of the Tour fee as a booking amount to reserve your spot
• The remaining balance is due in full 90 days before the start of the tour. If you would like to pay the remaining balance in installments, please let us know.
• All figures in USD per person
• Failure to make payments within this timeline could result in tour cancellation.
• A deposit is your commitment to joining the workshop. These deposits don’t typically sit in an account, they are used to cover initial expenses for the workshop like hotel reservations, park permits/fees, and guided tour deposits. Due to these expenses, deposits are non-refundable and tour payment made is subject to a cancellation fee.

If canceled by you?
More than 60 days before the start of the tour: Refund of workshop payment (not including deposit), less $100 convenience fee.
60 – 45 days before the start of the tour: Refund of 50% of workshop payment (not including deposit), less $199 convenience fee.
Less than 45 days before the start of the tour: No refunds will be given, and all payments will be forfeited. Full payment is required no later than 45 days prior to departure. If full payment is not received by this date you will be notified by email. If you do not respond within 3 business days, your spot will be forfeited and offered to participants on the waiting list.
Please note: The date of written (email) communication of intent to cancel is the date considered for the calculation of the cancellation fees. CANCELLED WORKSHOPS: If we are forced to cancel a workshop for any reason, your entire payment will be transferred to another comparable workshop within one calendar year

Do you have an option for single occupancy accommodation, if yes, then what is the cost?
The single occupancy/supplement cost is detailed on the photo tour pages.

Suppose I am a solo participant and do not wish to opt for a single supplement. How do I go about it? Especially if there is no one ready to share the room.

Since all lodges and hotels bill for double rooms, we are associated with single supplement charges, we will have to book you a single room at the supplement price mentioned for each tour. Alternatively, we can also find a perfect roommate for you based on your gender, age, and interests. If a roommate is not available, a single supplement will be charged.
